Seizure of E-Bike |
||
|
On Monday 11th May 2026, PC Morris and PC Chadwick were on patrol in the Sapling Road area when they identified a modified push bike being ridden in a concerning manner.
The bike had been altered so that it no longer required pedalling and was capable of speeds exceeding 40mph. Due to its modifications, this vehicle does not meet the legal requirements of an electrically assisted pedal cycle (EAPC) and is instead classed as a motor vehicle.
Officers observed the rider dismount, at which point they acted quickly to detain him and prevent him from making off. The bike was subsequently seized as the rider had no valid driving licence or insurance.
🚨 Why this matters These vehicles are also illegal to use on public roads, cycle paths, or pavements unless they meet strict legal requirements. If they exceed these limits, they must be registered, insured, and ridden by a licensed driver—just like any other motor vehicle.
